LIAM GALLAGHER & JOHN SQUIRE THE OASIS AND STONE ROSES LEGENDS ANNOUNCE A NEW COLLABORATION

THE OASIS AND STONE ROSES LEGENDS ANNOUNCE A NEW COLLABORATION

FIRST SINGLE ‘JUST ANOTHER RAINBOW’ COMING ON JANUARY 5TH

PRE-ORDER THE 7” VINYL / PRE-SAVE HERE

Collaborations don’t get much more biblical than this. Solo star, Oasis legend and force-of-nature Liam Gallagher has teamed up with John Squire, one of the most influential guitarists and songwriters of his generation via his time with The Stone Roses. The duo will set a high watermark for 2024 when they release their first single together, ‘Just Another Rainbow’, on January 5th, with more new music to follow as the year unfolds. The single is now available to pre-order on 7” vinyl and to pre-save at HERE.

It takes mere seconds to identify ‘Just Another Rainbow’ as the work of the duo, as John’s instantly unforgettable psychedelia-tinged guitar motif leads into a classic Liam vocal – full of passion, personality and utmost conviction. And from here it becomes exactly what you’d hope the duo to deliver: layers of guitar that spin seemingly effortlessly from the infectious melodic rush that recalls ‘I Am The Resurrection’ to an intensity that echoes ‘Love Spreads’, all topped by Liam’s signature star quality.

John says, “To me the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want. But I don’t like to explain songs, I think that’s the privilege of the listener, it’s whatever you want it to be. To me, it’s also one of the most uplifting tracks we’ve made together, which is weird.”

Liam adds, “I think John’s a top songwriter. Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned. There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself. It’s good to see him back writing songs and fucking good ones. The melodies are mega and then the guitars are a given. But I think even when you take all the fucking guitars off, you can play the songs all on acoustic and they’ll all still blow your mind.”

While this represents the duo’s first collaboration together, the first time they were in a room together was way back in 1989. The then 16-year-old Liam attended a Stone Roses gig at the International 2 in Manchester around the time their self-titled debut album was released, a show that he describes simply as “life-changing.” It was another four years before they met when both bands were recording in Monmouth, Wales: Oasis had just started work on what would become ‘Definitely Maybe’ while The Stone Roses were deep into sessions for ‘The Second Coming’. And when John first heard ‘Definitely Maybe’ he knew it was something special within the opening few bars of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’.

Their friendship continued in the subsequent years, notably with the pair writing ‘Love Me and Leave Me’ for John’s later band The Seahorses, who also toured as guests to Oasis. But it wasn’t until John jumped on stage at Liam’s gargantuan Knebworth Park show for climactic performances of ‘Champagne Supernova’ that the prospect of working together on something more substantial became a reality.

With John enthused by both the prospect of working with Liam as well as the rush of performing in front of huge audiences again (his final Stone Roses show was six years ago by this point), the idea rapidly took shape. John sent Liam an initial three songs (Liam’s review? “All mega”) and then quickly wrote some more, with the duo then collaborating remotely and sending each other reference points. They were all the greats. Hendrix. The Pistols. The Faces. Bob Marley. And, erm, The Bee Gees.

From thereon in, the project took on a life of its own. Liam arrived at John’s studio in Macclesfield and vowed to complete vocals for two demo recordings each day, a promise that he stuck to, and soon enough they had a catalogue of killer songs to choose from. From there it was off to Los Angeles for three weeks of sessions with revered producer Greg Kurstin who plays bass on the record, with drums courtesy of Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., Atoms for Peace). They unlocked a shared musical intuition that felt so natural it was almost as if they had always been a band.

There will be much more new music to come – and there could well be shows, too – but for now ‘Just Another Rainbow’ lives up the highfalutin expectations that come with such a collaboration.

The Corrs today release their stunning cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Songbird’ (listen here) – taken from Best Of The Corrs – newly reissued in expanded form for the first time on vinyl – out today, December 1st in a stunning limited edition 2LP gold vinyl format and expanded 2 CD collection.

The track arrives on the first anniversary of the passing of Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie. As well as Songbird, the band have also recorded beautiful new versions of the classic songs ‘Little Lies’(out now) and Everywhere – produced and recorded by Guy Chambers. A two-track 7” single of Little Lies/Songbird was released on very limited D2C on October 27th.

Originally released in 2001, Best Of The Corrs is a 21-track double platinum hits collection covering The Corrs’ hugely successful first three studio albums Forgiven Not Forgotten, Talk On Corners and In Blue, including hits such as Breathless, Runaway, What Can I Do, Radio, Dreams and more.

The Corrs are a family affair, Andrea (lead vocals, piano), Sharon (violin, piano, vocals), Caroline (drums, piano, vocals) and Jim (guitar, piano, vocals) who have sold over 40 million albums worldwide since their 1995 debut album Forgiven Not Forgotten crashed into the charts and stole our hearts. An enchanting mix of traditional Celtic music with a pop rock twist, The Corrs have written some of the biggest songs of the last three decades.

They have enjoyed a career that has also seen Platinum records, BRIT Awards, Grammy and Ivor Novello nominations, the honour of being the only band to be asked to perform at Nelson Mandela’s 85th birthday, and more recently, the Queen’s Jubilee in 2002.

Their last album, 2017’s Jupiter Calling, was The Corrs’ seventh and most distinguished album – recorded with legendary producer T. Bone Burnett at London’s RAK Studios.

In 2022, Talk On Corners, The Corrs’ record-breaking second album turned 25! The UK charts it’s the fourth biggest record of the 1990s, and in 2016 was still listed as the 28th biggest selling album of all time. Its success – returning to Number 1 six times – brought their 1995 debut Forgiven, Not Forgotten up to Number 2, making them the rare band to achieve that feat. It was influential too, with Ed Sheeran citing the band’s 90s success as the inspiration behind his hit single Galway Girl.

The Corrs have just come off the road, after a rapturous 12-date tour of southeast Asia, Australia & New Zealand, that kicked off October 18th in Jakarta.

+ ‘REGARDING THE JOY OF NOTHING UK TOUR’ NEXT MONTH

Foy Vance has today released his very special new single “Guiding Light (Anniversary Edition)”, which features vocals from three of the biggest names in music – Ed Sheeran, Elton John and Keith Urban. Comments Elton John: “It’s the most beautiful song. When Foy asked me to do it, it was a no brainer for me because I’m such a huge fan of his.”

Comments Ed Sheeran: “I was a Foy Vance fan from the age of about 15 and went to a load of his gigs back then where he used to end with Guiding Light. It was a song that I was obsessed with. I learned it in my bedroom, and I used to play it at pub shows, trying to be Foy. When we got to know each other, I asked him why he had never recorded it because I’d only ever found videos of it on YouTube and I really encouraged him to record it. When he was recording it he asked ‘well why don’t you sing it with me? If you’ve been singing for all these years you should sing it with me,’ so we sang it on Joy of Nothing in 2013. Then when said he was re-recording it and wants to do it with Keith Urban and Elton John I was like, that sounds great!”

Comments Keith Urban: “I get a call from Foy that they’re going to do a new version of Guiding Light, one of my all-time favourite songs, to celebrate the ten year anniversary of Foy writing the song, and so for me that was a no brainer. To be on the song period is incredible because it’s such a beautiful song. It’s more of a hymn—it captures all of the beauty and the struggle and everything that it is to be a spiritual being having a human experience. I think this song captures it. So it was an immediate yes from me to be a part of it.”

Vance has also unveiled the accompanying video, which was shot in Brooklyn, New York by Gus Black, who directed the video for Vance’s ”She Burns”. Shot on film, the “Guiding Light (Anniversary Edition) video is a modern cinematic take on the classic Hollywood screen test and stars actor/model AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Carrie Diaries, The Act).

There is also a lyric video for “Guiding Light (Anniversary Edition)” plus a documentary video will premiere on November 21 at 5pm GMT / 12pm ET.

The closing track on Vance’s 2013 breakthrough album Joy Of Nothing, “Guiding Light” was originally co-sung by Ed Sheeran, Vance’s long-time friend, touring and songwriting partner. Over the past decade the song has become a beacon of hope for Vance’s substantial worldwide fanbase, and to celebrate 10 year he has revisited the song with three iconic musicians who have been part of his journey and who continue to inspire him.

Produced by Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, the new Anniversary Edition of the song features new vocals from Sheeran together with musical icon Elton John, who has long-championed Vance, and Keith Urban, who has written with Vance and covered his 2016 song “Burden”. The backing choir on the new version consists of Anderson East, Patrick Droney, Devin Dawson, Bonnie Bishop, Lisa Gray, Etta Britt, Bob Britt, and NEEDTOBREATHES’s Bear Rinehart, Josh Lovelace, Seth Bolt, Tyler Burkum, and Randall Harris, and was recorded at Anderson East’s studio in Nashville.

“When I wrote Guiding Light I was feeling lost in my life due to a loss of family, friendships and reason,” says Vance of the track. “The music lit up the darkness. Melody reminded me to keep going no matter how long the road or how pointless it seemed.

“Guiding Light is the person or the thing that brings you back to a safe space, somewhere to lick your wounds and convalesce. To see this song resonate with so many people over the years has truly been a beautiful thing.”

Foy Vance and Ed Sheeran go way back to when Ed was an unsigned, prolifically gigging newcomer. Over Sheeran’s subsequent years of global superstardom, their friendship and songwriting partnership has endured. In 2015, Vance became Sheeran’s second signing to his label Gingerbread Man Records and he has subsequently released two acclaimed studio albums, The Wild Swan (2016) and Signs Of Life (2021).

Vance and Sheeran’s collaborations include co-writing four tracks including “Galway Girl” on Ed Sheeran’s 2017 album Divide, and the closing track “The Hills of Aberfeldy” on Ed’s 2023 album Subtract. Foy The pair also co-wrote “Blue” on Sheeran’s new album Autumn Variations and “A Beautiful Game” for Apple TV+’s ‘Ted Lasso’, which has been nominated for a 2023 Primetime Emmy Award. Vance has also worked with Alicia Keys, Rag N Bone Man, Keith Urban, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Plan B and Rudimental among many others, effortlessly switching between genres.

“Guiding Light” (Anniversary Edition) arrives ahead of Vance’s upcoming Regarding The Joy Of Nothing UK Tour. Recorded in Donegal on Ireland’s west coast, the album was a critical and commercial breakthrough for the Bangor-born musician, winning the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize.

Vance lives in the Scottish Highlands with his family.

UK/IRISH TRIO NEW RULES KICK OFF CHRISTMAS WITH “MIGHT RUIN CHRISTMAS” DOUBLE SINGLE OUT NOW

NEW RULES RING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON

WITH MIGHT RUIN CHRISTMAS DOUBLE SINGLE

ORIGINAL HOLIDAY SINGLE “MIGHT RUIN CHRISTMAS”

+ “SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN” COVER STREAMING NOW

LISTEN HERE

NOVEMBER 17, 2023 – UK/Irish Trio New Rules are ringing in the holiday season with a Christmas double single. Written solely by the band, their original track “Might Ruin Christmas” arrives as a welcome addition to the modern Christmas canon – a cheeky offering exploring what can happen when you have a little too much fun the night before the holiday. The group also shared a cover of the Christmas classic, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” giving the track a fresh take with stacked harmonies, jaunty guitars, and an explosive chorus. Both songs are available now via Elektra.

On the idea behind “Might Ruin Christmas,” New Rules explains: “One of the best things about Christmas is getting to go home and catch up with all your friends, but with that comes the risk of getting too ‘merry’ the night before and wrecking Christmas Day for everyone – getting home too late, snacking on the turkey, knocking over the tree… all potential hazards we have to avoid around the holiday season. ‘Might Ruin Christmas’ is a song that we think captures that ‘night before’ feeling.

Last month, New Rules played a packed headline show at Islington Assembly Hall and debuted their captivating new single and video “Ghost Town,” which was featured as Maia Beth’s Poppest Track on BBC Sounds. Written by New Rules and John Ryan [One Direction, Niall Horan, Sabrina Carpenter], “Ghost Town” laments the demise of a relationship and the feeling of abandonment that comes after. Directed by Devon Kuziw, the haunting visual toys with the song’s concept, flipping it on its head to present the group as ghosts in a world that has lost substance to them without their partner.

“Ghost Town” was preceded by the reflective summer track “Old Days” and the bouncy single “NOPE!,” which was named by British GQ one of “The Best Songs of 2023 (So Far).” Earlier this year, the band wrapped up a run of UK and Ireland headline tour dates, which earned a glowing review from The Sun, who raved, “…I hadn’t experienced this sort of hysteria since One Direction” and praised the band’s “electric” energy “…easing between flawless harmonies, guitar riffs, and banter with fans.” The trio also recorded a Radio 1 session at London’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios earlier this year. The group’s 2022 mixtape Go The Distance racked up praise from PEOPLE Magazine, who named the trio one of their Emerging Artists To Watch. Rolling Stone UK applauded the mixtape’s “pop-driven earworms,” while Sweety High attested New Rules are “going places.”

About New Rules:

For New Rules, three guitars and three voices converge upon one stadium-size sound. The London-based trio—Alec McGarry, Nathan Lambert, and Ryan Meaney—elevate pop to the rafters fueled by singer-songwriter soul, rock ‘n’ roll spirit, and a whole lot of personality. With Ryan from Dublin, Alec from Hertfordshire, and Nathan from Chelmsford, the boys initially met online, bonding over similar backgrounds playing music on street corners, uploading covers online, and penning original material. The musicians congregated in London and introduced New Rules with “Call It” and “Fix Somebody” during 2019. Beyond hitting the road with Julia Michaels, Little Mix, and Picture This, they’ve sold out successive headline tours. Following the viral success of “Pasta” and “Emily,” they caught the attention of Elektra Records and signed to the label in 2021. Last summer, the trio released their debut mixtape Go The Distance, which racked up praise from PEOPLE Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone UK, and more, in addition to selling out UK shows and their first-ever U.S. dates.

GLOBAL POP SUPERSTAR DUA LIPA RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND NEW VIDEO “HOUDINI” OUT NOW

GLOBAL POP SUPERSTAR DUA LIPA RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND NEW VIDEO “HOUDINI” OUT NOW

Today, global superstar Dua Lipa has returned with “Houdini” – the highly anticipated track introducing the beginning of a new chapter following her 2020 smash Future Nostalgia. The track is out today alongside its official music video.

“Houdini” kickstarts the narrative thread that weaves its way through Dua’s upcoming project. Dua notes that “Houdini,” “embodies that 4 a.m. feeling when the night is coming to a close and you’re a bit sweaty, but you just don’t want the party to end.” The official music video, directed by Manu Cossu with cinematographer André Chemetoff, sees Dua post-rehearsal in a dance hall, revising her choreography under fluorescent lights. The lights reflect in the room’s mirrors, creating an optical illusion as the energy begins to swell.

“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” says Dua. “’Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”

“Houdini” was written by Lipa, along with Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, a group who served as core collaborators throughout the project, and was produced by Parker and Harle. “A lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be,” says Dua.
